Steel City Appliance Repair is owner-operated. Marc is the owner and the technician — one person does the diagnosis, the repair and the follow-up, with 30 years of experience working on appliances. Calls are answered around the clock and appointments are booked on the spot. We repair residential appliances only; we don’t install new ones and we don’t service commercial equipment.
Call (205) 215-5995 any time, day or night, or book online. Calls are answered and appointments booked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Service visits are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
What we repair
Built-in dishwashers, electric and gas ranges, wall ovens, cooktops, microwaves, and garbage disposals. Repair only — we don’t install new units. On gas appliances we work on the appliance itself, not the gas line running to it: anything upstream of the appliance connection is a job for a plumber or gas fitter (most plumbers are both).
Common dishwasher problems we’re called for
- Dishes come out dirty or gritty — usually the circulation (wash) pump, a spray arm blockage, or a filter that’s never been cleaned.
- Won’t drain, water in the bottom — drain pump or a check valve.
- Won’t start, or lights flash a code — door latch, control board, or thermal fuse.
- Leaking — door seal, pump seal, or a hose; the location tells the story.
- Doesn’t dry — heating element or vent, depending on the model.
Common oven and range problems we’re called for
- Oven won’t heat, or takes forever to preheat — bake element on electric, igniter on gas. The gas oven igniter is one of the most common failures on any appliance.
- Runs hot or cold, food comes out wrong — temperature sensor or control, often correctable rather than a replacement.
- A burner won’t light, or clicks without lighting — spark module, igniter, or a fouled burner cap.
- Surface element won’t heat on electric — element, switch, or connection.
- Door won’t unlock after self-clean — the door lock motor or control. This is a routine call, not a ruined oven.
- Dead display or a code that won’t clear — control board.
Fall and winter are when oven calls spike, for the obvious reason. If yours is uneven or slow, it’s worth handling before the holidays rather than the week of.
Brands
We service the major residential kitchen brands, including Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE, Maytag, Frigidaire, Bosch, LG, Samsung, and Kenmore. LG and Samsung ovens, ranges, and dishwashers are fine — our exclusion is Samsung and LG refrigerators. We don’t service Sub-Zero or Wolf appliances of any kind.
