Steel City Appliance Repair is owner-operated. Marc is the owner and the technician — one person does the diagnosis, the repair and the follow-up, with 30 years of experience working on appliances. Calls are answered around the clock and appointments are booked on the spot. We repair residential appliances only; we don’t install new ones and we don’t service commercial equipment.
Call (205) 215-5995 any time, day or night, or book online. Calls are answered and appointments booked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Service visits are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Read this first — brands we don’t service
We’d rather tell you now than after a trip charge.
We do not service Samsung or LG refrigerators, and we do not service Sub-Zero or Wolf appliances of any kind. Samsung and LG washers, dryers, and ovens are fine — it’s their refrigerators we don’t take on. If you have one of those, we’d rather point you elsewhere than waste your afternoon.
Everything else in the major residential brands — Whirlpool, GE, Maytag, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Kenmore, Amana, Bosch — we handle.
What we repair
Standard and French-door refrigerators, side-by-sides, top and bottom freezers, standalone freezers, ice makers, and under-counter ice machines.
Common problems we’re called for
- Not cooling, or cooling in one compartment only — often a defrost system failure (heater, thermostat, or control) rather than a dead compressor. Worth diagnosing before you replace the unit.
- Freezer works, fridge doesn’t — usually airflow or the defrost system, not the sealed system.
- Running constantly and never satisfying — thermostat, control, seal, or a condenser packed with dust.
- Ice maker stopped making ice, or makes hollow cubes — inlet valve, ice maker module, or a water line issue.
- Water on the floor, or ice sheeting in the bottom of the freezer — typically a blocked defrost drain, which is a genuinely fixable problem.
- Loud buzzing, clicking, or a fan noise that comes and goes — evaporator or condenser fan.
- Warm spots, condensation, or a door that doesn’t seal — gasket or door alignment.
Refrigerators are the appliance people replace fastest and least necessarily. A defrost heater or a fan motor is a routine part; a failed sealed system is not. Diagnosis tells you which one you have.
What customers say
“Marc came on time, examined the source of the loud noise coming from the top compartment of my Frigidaire Refrigerator, and correctly concluded that the damper unit was going bad, and quoted me a price. After I gave him the OK to proceed with the repair, he went and purchased the replacement part at a local appliance parts supply store, came back, and replaced it. Now my Refrigerator is very quiet! The price quoted by Steel City Appliance Repair is very reasonable and lower than what a larger Company with high overhead costs would have charged me. I recommend Steel City Appliance Repair Company very highly!”

“Marc at Steel City is very professional and knowledgeable! He is also a very good communicator. Before he came to our house to fix our refrigerator problems, he sent me a text to inform us when he would arrive. He fixed our refrigerator…”
