Steel City Appliance Repair is owner-operated. Marc is the owner and the technician — one person does the diagnosis, the repair and the follow-up, with 30 years of experience working on appliances. Calls are answered around the clock and appointments are booked on the spot. We repair residential appliances only; we don’t install new ones and we don’t service commercial equipment.

What we repair
Front-load and top-load washers, stacked laundry centers, and gas and electric dryers. Most of what fails on a laundry pair is mechanical and repairable — drain pumps, door locks, belts, rollers, heating elements, inlet valves, and control boards are all standard replacements.
Common washer problems we’re called for
- Won’t drain, or water sits in the drum — usually the drain pump or a clogged pump filter, sometimes a blocked hose.
- Won’t spin, or clothes come out soaking wet — often the door lock/interlock on a front-loader, or a drive or suspension problem.
- Door won’t unlock — the interlock assembly, which is a routine replacement part.
- Won’t fill, or fills slowly — hot or cold water inlet valve, or the supply itself.
- Walking, banging, or violent shaking on spin — usually shocks, springs, or a load-balance issue rather than a dead machine.
- Dead panel, or an error code you can’t clear — the main control board or, on many front-loaders, the motor inverter board.
- Leaking — the source matters more than the symptom; door boot, hose, pump, and tub seal all present as “a puddle.”
Common dryer problems we’re called for
- Runs but doesn’t heat — heating element, thermal fuse, or thermostat on an electric dryer; igniter or coils on gas.
- Takes two or three cycles to dry a load — this is usually restricted airflow, not a broken dryer. Worth a call before you buy a new one.
- Loud rumbling, thumping, or squealing — drum rollers, idler pulley, or belt. These are wear parts.
- Won’t start, or stops mid-cycle — door switch, thermal fuse, or control.
- Drum turns but the timer never advances — control or sensor.
If your dryer is taking longer than it used to and the lint trap is clean, the vent run is the first thing worth checking. That’s a genuine repair, not an upsell — a restricted vent is also a fire risk.
Brands
We service the major residential laundry brands, including Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, LG, Samsung, Kenmore, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Amana, and Speed Queen. Samsung and LG washers and dryers are fine — the exclusion in our shop is Samsung and LG refrigerators. We don’t service Sub-Zero or Wolf appliances of any kind.
